JPG to PNG Converter

Convert JPG photos to lossless PNG in seconds — handy for editing or when an app only accepts PNG. Free, and nothing is uploaded.

🔒 Your images are converted on your own device. They are never uploaded to any server.

How to convert JPG to PNG

  1. Drop your JPG files into the box above, or tap Choose images.
  2. PNG is already selected — there is no quality to set, because PNG is lossless.
  3. Download each PNG, or Download all as a ZIP.

When is PNG the better choice?

Save as PNG when you will keep editing an image: every save as JPG loses a little detail, while PNG keeps the pixels exactly. Some apps, games and printing services also require PNG.

Converting does not bring back detail that JPG compression already removed, and the PNG will be larger than the JPG.

What JPG to PNG really does

A JPG is already compressed: when it was saved, some fine detail was thrown away to make the file small. Converting it to PNG freezes the image exactly as it is now — every pixel, including any compression smudges — in a format that will not lose anything more.

So the PNG is not sharper than the JPG, it is a lossless copy of it. What you gain is that future edits and saves stop degrading the picture. What you pay is file size: a PNG of a photo is normally several times larger than the JPG it came from.

Good reasons to convert

When to leave it as JPG

If the image is only going to be viewed, shared or uploaded, there is no benefit in converting. The PNG will take more storage, load more slowly on a website and may exceed upload limits. A typical 3 MB phone photo can become a 10–15 MB PNG with no visible change. If you are holding a photo that was saved as PNG and is too big to send, the reverse step, PNG to JPG, is usually what you want.

Converting without a website

On a single image you can also use built-in tools:

These work one file at a time. For a folder of images, drop them all here and download a single ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Does JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. It keeps the current quality exactly but cannot restore detail lost when the JPG was created.

Will the background become transparent?

No. JPG has no transparency, so the PNG has the same solid background.

Why is the PNG bigger?

PNG stores pixels without lossy compression, so photos usually become 2–5 times larger.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion runs in your browser on your device.

Is there any quality setting for PNG?

No. PNG is lossless, so there is nothing to trade off; the slider is hidden when PNG is selected.

Is the photo’s location data kept in the PNG?

No. The PNG is written from the pixels only, so EXIF details such as camera model, date and GPS location are not copied over.

My JPG appears sideways in some apps. Will the PNG?

No. The rotation recorded by the camera is applied while converting, so the PNG is stored upright.

Can I make the PNG smaller afterwards?

Use the image resizer to reduce its width and height — fewer pixels is the only way to shrink a PNG much. If you need a small file more than lossless quality, staying with JPG is the better answer.

Can I convert JPG to PNG on a phone?

Yes. Open this page in your phone’s browser, choose photos from the gallery, and the PNG files are saved to your downloads. Bear in mind each PNG takes noticeably more storage than the JPG.
