How to convert PNG to JPG
- Drop your PNG files into the box above, or tap Choose images.
- JPG is already selected. Adjust the quality if you want an even smaller file.
- Download each JPG, or Download all as a ZIP.
Why convert PNG to JPG?
PNG files of photos are often 5–10 times bigger than the same image as JPG. Many upload forms reject large files or accept only JPG. Converting fixes both problems.
Keep PNG for logos and graphics that need a transparent background — JPG fills transparent areas with white.
When converting PNG to JPG is a good idea
PNG was designed for graphics, not for photographs. It stores every pixel without loss, which is wasteful for a camera photo where nobody can see the difference. That is why photos that end up as PNG — exported from an editing app, captured as screenshots, or saved with “Save as PNG” — are often several megabytes each.
- Photos that ended up as PNG and need to go to a job portal, visa form or school system that caps uploads at 1–2 MB.
- Screenshots of photos, video frames or maps — colourful, detailed images that compress well as JPG.
- A batch of product or listing pictures exported from a design tool as PNG.
- Anything you want to email or message without hitting attachment limits.
When to keep PNG instead
JPG compresses by smoothing small blocks of the image. On photos that is invisible, but on sharp edges it leaves faint smudges and halos. Keep the PNG for:
- Logos, icons and stickers with a transparent background — in JPG the transparent parts become solid white.
- Screenshots that are mostly text: documents, code, chat windows, spreadsheets. Small letters are where JPG artefacts show first.
- Diagrams, line art and pixel art with large flat areas of one colour.
- Images you will keep editing. Every new JPG save throws away a little more detail — if what you have is already a JPG, converting it to PNG before editing stops further loss.
If a text-heavy screenshot really must be smaller, try JPG at 90 or above and compare it at 100% zoom before you delete the PNG.
Choosing a JPG quality
The slider goes from 50 to 100 and starts at 92. Here is how the range behaves in practice:
| Quality | What to expect |
|---|---|
| 95–100 | Visually identical to the PNG, but the file grows quickly towards the top of the range. Rarely worth it. |
| 85–92 | The sensible default for photos. No visible difference in normal viewing, much smaller file. |
| 70–84 | Good for web pages and messaging. Fine detail softens slightly if you zoom in. |
| 50–69 | Smallest files. Blocky patches can appear in skies, gradients and around text. |
If you need to hit an exact limit such as “under 200 KB”, convert here first and then use the image compressor, which lowers the quality step by step until the file fits.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will the JPG be?
For photos and screenshots, usually 3–10 times smaller. Lower the quality slider for even smaller files.
What happens to transparency?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent parts become white.
Can I convert many PNG files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like and download them together as a ZIP.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser on your device.
Will the JPG have the same width and height?
Yes. The image is saved at its original pixel size. Use the image resizer if you also need it smaller.
My PNG has a transparent background. Can the JPG background be a colour other than white?
Not in this tool — transparent pixels are always filled with white. If you need another colour, keep the PNG or add the background in an image editor first.
Can I change the quality after converting?
Yes. Move the slider and the files in the list are converted again with the new setting.
Why is my JPG not much smaller than the PNG?
Simple graphics with flat colours are something PNG already compresses well, so the saving is small and the JPG may even look worse. That is a sign the image is better left as PNG.
Can I convert PNG screenshots on my phone?
Yes. Open this page in your phone’s browser, pick the screenshots from your gallery, and download the JPGs one by one or together as a ZIP.
