How to convert WebP to JPG
- Drop your WebP files into the box above, or tap Choose images.
- JPG is already selected; the default quality of 92 looks the same as the original.
- Download each JPG, or Download all as a ZIP.
Why are images saved as WebP?
Most websites now serve images as WebP because the files are smaller and pages load faster. When you save such an image, you get a .webp file — which some photo viewers, editors and upload forms still do not accept.
JPG opens everywhere. If you need a transparent background, convert to PNG instead.
Where WebP files come from
You rarely create a WebP on purpose. Typical ways people end up with one:
- Right-clicking an image on a shop, news site or Google Images and choosing Save image as — the site served WebP, so that is what gets saved.
- Product photos downloaded from online marketplaces and supplier catalogues.
- Images sent through some messaging or social apps that convert pictures to keep them small.
- Exports from website builders and image CDNs.
Where WebP still causes trouble
Browsers handle WebP without problems, but the rest of the world has been slower. You are likely to need a JPG when:
- An upload form for an application, marketplace listing or government portal accepts only “JPG, JPEG, PNG”.
- An older version of Photoshop, an office suite or a photo-printing kiosk will not open the file.
- You want to send the picture to someone whose phone or email client shows a blank attachment.
- Your photo library or slideshow software skips files it does not recognise.
Getting the best JPG from a WebP
Most WebP images on the web are already compressed, so converting at a very high quality just makes the JPG bigger without making it look better. The default of 92 is a safe middle ground. If the original WebP was tiny (a thumbnail, say), no setting will add detail that was never there — look for a larger version of the image instead.
If a WebP has a transparent background (common for product cut-outs and logos), JPG will place it on white. That is usually what marketplace listings want; if not, convert to PNG to keep the transparency.
Other ways to convert
- Mac: open the WebP in Preview and use File → Export, choosing JPEG.
- Windows: if the Paint app on your PC can open WebP (recent Windows 11 versions can), use File → Save as → JPEG picture.
Both are fine for a single file. For a whole folder of downloaded images, it is quicker to drop them here together and download the results as one ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a WebP file?
Modern browsers can open WebP directly. To use it in other apps, convert it to JPG or PNG with this tool.
Does WebP to JPG lose quality?
At the default quality of 92 there is no visible difference.
What happens to transparent WebP images?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent parts become white. Choose PNG to keep transparency.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser on your device.
Why did my saved image turn out to be a WebP when the page said JPG?
Many sites store a JPG but deliver WebP to browsers that support it. The file you save is what the browser received, so it is WebP.
The file ends in .jpg but will not open. Can this help?
Possibly. The converter checks the content, not the extension, so a WebP that was simply renamed to .jpg is still recognised and converted properly.
Is an animated WebP converted to an animated JPG?
No. JPG cannot animate, so only the first frame is saved.
Can I convert WebP to JPG on my phone?
Yes. Open this page in your phone’s browser, choose the WebP files from your downloads or gallery, and save the JPGs. If the phone’s gallery does not list WebP files, use the browser’s file picker and look in the Downloads folder.
